Event: SOA adoption at NSG Pilkington

Date: 10/11/2008
Start Time: 14:55
End Time: 15:40

Speaker: Martin Lea

Description:

The session will focus on the applications that we identified and why we chose them and on our experiences of developing these applications.

The session will focus on the detail and the reality, addressing questions such as:

• Visual Composer vs ABAP Web Dynpro?
• Do you need to wait until you have and ERP 6 system?
• How easy is it to find the services you are looking for?
• How does it change the required skill set of your functional consultants, and their traditional configuration skills?
• How does it change the required skill set of your technical consultants, and their traditional ABAP skills?
• How do you manage composite developments:
o What should a specification look like?
o The value of building your own service repository to keep track of the useful services that you have found?
o Do you need to build your own, bespoke services?
These are all the questions we had and have begun to answer them by starting small, identifying and developing appropriate applications, selling them to the business to generate demand, but in a controlled way whilst we build the internal delivery capability to meet this demand.
