HANA and new tech to dominate 2013 SAP User Group conference

Customers will be sharing their experiences of SAP's in-memory platform HANA for the first time at next month’s annual UK & Ireland SAP User Group (UKISUG) conference.

Held at the ICC Birmingham between 24 and 26 November, the “Tomorrow’s World conference will also see outgoing co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe give a keynote speech.

UKISUG chief executive Craig Dale told ComputerworldUK: “Lots of different things have been happening in the SAP world over the past 18 months, and I think things are moving forward with the likes of HANA, which is starting to become a reality for lots of businesses now.

“For the first time we have got customers talking about what they have done with HANA, whereas previously we had just had SAP talking about what HANA can do for you.

He added: “[Customers] will be talking about implementing HANA and what it has meant for them. I think HANA is going to be a very popular one this year.

Other areas of interest are likely to include the impact of social media and mobility on organisations, said Dale.

However, given the recent licensing announcement from SAP, which now allows customers to reallocate elements of their on-premise licenses to the respective cloud solutions, this will no doubt be a topic of particular interest for attendees.

“There has been a lot of work on cloud this year and with change to licensing there will a lot of people wondering what they can do with their business now that SAP has given them a little bit of a helping hand, said Dale.

With outgoing co-CEO Jim Hagemann Snabe talking at the event, Dale and the user group are also keen to understand how his departure will impact the business.

Dale said: “One of the things we will be asking Jim to talk about is where the product is going, where things are going in the future, but also how it is going to be looked after when he moves to the advisory board.

For those interested in attending the upcoming event, all relevant details can be found on the conference website.
