This session opens with a members‑only Round Table featuring open discussion and an exclusive update from Sapphire including the SAP and Anthropic collaboration.

From there, Peter Sørensen of OpenText will explore how organisations can archive data and retire legacy systems when moving to SAP S/4HANA Cloud. After a short break, David Dinsdale and Hitesh Babhania from SAP will guide attendees through Starting the S/4HANA Journey, followed by insights from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) on their recent SAP transformation.

Data archiving and system decommissioning when migrating to SAP S/4HANA Cloud
What happens to your historical data when you move to SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

Public Sector organisations often hold decades of financial, operational and citizen records that simply cannot be left behind. Peter Sørensen from OpenText will look at how to manage that data properly when moving from SAP ECC keeping it accessible without letting it slow down your new system.

What you'll learn:
  • How SAP data archiving works in practice
  • How to retire legacy ECC systems and infrastructure safely
  • How to keep records available for audits, investigations and FOI requests
Moving inactive records out of your live database reduces migration complexity and keeps running costs down, without losing access to the data you're legally required to keep.

Starting the S/4HANA Journey

Moving to SAP S/4HANA is one of the most significant transformations a Public Sector organisation can undertake and knowing where to start makes all the difference.

This session with David Dinsdale & Hitesh Babhania, SAP offers a clear, practical guide to what an S/4HANA migration really looks like for Public Sector teams. From the key stages of the journey through to building a robust business case, you'll come away with a grounded understanding of your options, the steps involved and what to watch out for along the way.

We'll explore what works well in practice, the common challenges organisations face and crucially, how to realise genuine value through improved efficiency, resilience and service delivery. You'll also discover how SAP can support your organisation at every stage of the transformation.

Chloe Bubb & Alex Hemington, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (MHCLG)

Over the last four years, a central government department has embarked on a journey to upgrade their SAP systems. Following the completion of this programme, colleagues in the department want to share these experiences for others taking on these upgrades in their organisations.

In this session, Chloe Bubb and Alex Hemington, MHCLG will provide insight into the SAP transformation that Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) have recently completed with the upgrade of their HR and Finance systems. We’ll explore an overview of the programme, what was delivered and share the experiences from the department across areas of programme delivery, communications and change management.

This is a great opportunity to hear first-hand the successes MHCLG have delivered, share lessons learnt and ask any question which will help public sector groups on their own transformation journey for upgrading SAP systems.
